Looking for a classic Chevy pickup from the postWorld War IIera? MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Fivewindow ton Pickup Truck. This example was made in GMs Van Nuys, California factory (VIN code 20) in March 1950 (VIN code C) and it was the 2,277th 3100 truck assembled there.

Dressed in a sharp ivory over black combination, the trucks exterior looks great, with only minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The glass panels, including the split windshield and the triple rear windows, center, and Big Windows over the drivers left and outboard passengers right shoulders, which made for easier lane changes and backing up. The trucks lights are in overall good order; however, the drivers side taillight is cracked.

The trucks bodywork is straight, its engine bay is very tidy and the cargo area, with its oaken floor boards, looks fantastic. The steel step plates and the black running boards look great. The chrome, bladed bumpers are in very good order, with just a minor blemish on the rear one and a mark on the front valence panel near the front bumper.

This truck rolls on Firestone Deluxe Champion GumDipped wide whitewalls, size 6.0016 at all four corners, mounted on steel wheels with factory moon wheel covers and ivory beauty rings. The tires and wheels are all in excellent condition.

Under the hood is Chevrolets 216 CID inline sixcylinder engine, buttoned to a threespeed manual transmission with a columnmounted shifter.

Inside, the black bench seat is in great shape, as is the black floormat, the black headliner and threespoke steering wheel. The ivory metal instrument panel, with its full slate of gauges and the black and white inner door panels are all in very good order. The fuel and temperature gauge is inoperable. The speedometer/odometer and the horn are inoperable. This is a radio delete model.

In 1950, telescopicshock absorbersreplace leveraction type. Last year for drivers side cowl vent, its handle is now flat steel, not maroon knob as in previous years.

AdvanceDesignwas a truck series byChevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlierAK Series. First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when theTask Force Seriestrucks replaced the aging AdvanceDesign model.

The same basic design family was used for all of its trucks including theSuburban, panel trucks, canopy expressandcab overs. The cab overs used the same basic cab configuration and similar grille but used a shorter and taller hood and different fenders. The unique Cab Over fenders and hood required a custom cowl area which makes the Cab Over Engine cabs and normal truck cabs incompatible with one another while all truck cabs of all weights interchange.

From 1947 until 1955, Chevrolet trucks were number one in sales in the United States, with rebranded versions sold atGMClocations.

WhileGeneral Motorsused this frontend sheet metal, and to a slightly lesser extent the cab, on all of its trucks except for theCab Overs, there are three main sizes of this truck: the half, threequarter, and full ton capacities in short and long wheelbase.

Competition to this Chevy in 1950 was Dodges B1B halftons, Fords F1 halftons and GMCs New Design Series trucks.
