From a time when Cadillac was known as the Standard of the World, the year the United States put men on the moon and the world stood on the precipice of the 1970s, MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville Convertible. This is one of 16,445 Coupe de Ville Convertibles made in 1969.
Manufactured at General Motors Detroit, Michigan facility during the second week of June 1969.
Currently dressed in black, the cars print and trim are in overall very good order, its bodywork is straight and solid, the cars chrome bumpers are in very good order and the engine bay is tidy.
This Coupe de Ville wears Goodyear Arriva whitewall tires, size P235/75R15 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel topped by a factory wheel cover. The tires and wheel covers are all in satisfactory order.
Under the hood is Cadillacs 472 CID V8 engine, backed by a Turbo Hydramatic 400 threespeed automatic transmission and a 2.94:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include airconditioning, power steering, power brakes, twoway power front seats, power windows and power locks. The AC/heat are inoperable most likely due to a faulty switch.
Inside, the black interior (code 351) is in overall satisfactory order. The black, twoway power front, splitbench seat with folddown center armrest shows some minor blemishes but is in overall decent order. The corresponding black carpet is in similar order. A factory, threespeed steering wheel faces the driver while the instrument panel and inner door panels are all in good shape. A JVC AM/FM stereo with aftermarket speakers complete the interior.
In 1969 DeVille was restyled in the Eldorado image. An Eldoradolike front fender treatment evolved and helped to emphasize a stronger horizontal design line. Rear quarters were extended to give the car a longer look. There was an allnew grille with dual horizontal headlamps positioned in the outboard stepdown areas of the grille. The hood was again extended, a total of 2.5 inches to add the impression of extra length. The roofline was squarer and the rear deck and bumper more sculptured. A new ventilation system eliminated the need for vent windows, which provided a longer sleeker look and improved visibility. New standard features included front and rear (except on convertibles) center seat armrests.
Competition to this Cadillac in 1969 included Buicks Electra 225 and Wildcat Custom Convertibles, Chryslers 300 and Newport convertibles, MercedesBenzs 280 SL Convertible, Mercurys Marquis Convertible and Oldsmobiles 98 Convertible.
