Reliable. Durable. Practical. Three adjectives that describe a stock version of the reardrive GM Xbody cars. Fast. Clean. Powerful. Three more adjectives that describe this decidedly not stock 1969 Chevrolet Nova Sport Coupe, presented by MotoeXotica Classic Cars.
Assembled in Chevrolet's Willow Run, Michigan, this car has undergone a nearly complete restoration. Under the hood is a 355 CID V8 crate motor, featuring a new 600 CFM Edelbrock carburetor with auto choke, an Edelbrock highrise intake manifold, 2.5" headers, new aluminum valve covers, new spark plugs and wires, a HEI distributor, new battery on May 28, 2016, fuel pump, fuel filter and aluminum radiator with overflow tank. There are scratches on the window trim but the new paint lends the car a classy appearance and adds a pinch of menace. All of the glass panels are intact and clear, including the new windshield with integrated radio antenna. Underhood lies a new windshield washer pump with hoses, nozzles and tank. All of the car's lights are present and intact with no hazing, including the new halogen headlights. All body panels are straight and the bumpers and engine bay sparkle. Car also sports a new twoinch raised hood with reverse intake and underside insulation. This car has new floor pans, front and rear, and vehicle was recently undercoated.
There are new floortoroof and door insulation, door/trunk/cowl seals and trunk mat. The car has new air shocks and rolls on Cordovan tires up front, 195/75R14, and Cooper Radial GTs in the back, 225/70R14. The tires surround fiveslot aluminum wheels, American Racing ones in front and which are in decent shape.
Inside, there are many new components carpet, door panels, arm rests, a 1990sera, fourspoke Chevrolet steering wheel, door and window cranks, rear deck, rear seat divider, headliner, dash pad, door sills and front and rear seats. There are new indash temperature and oil pressure gauges to complement the stock speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. TheChevrolet Novawas produced in five generations from 1962 through 1979. For 1969, the Chevy II nameplate was retired, leaving the Nova nameplate. The "Chevy II by Chevrolet" trunk lid badge was replaced with "Nova by Chevrolet" and the "Chevy II" badge above the grille was replaced with the bowtie emblem and the 69 model was promoted under the Nova model name in Chevrolet sales literature. As with other 1969 GM vehicles, locking steering columns were incorporated into the Nova. Simulated air extractor/vents were added below the Nova script, which was relocated to the front fender behind the wheelwell instead of the rear quarter panel. The 350CID V8 with fourbarrel carburetor that came standard with the SS option was revised with an increase of five to 300horsepower, while a twobarrel carbureted version of the 350CID V8 rated at 255horsepower was a new option on nonSS models. The SS option price remained $312.A new TurboHydramatic 350 threespeed automatic was made available for nonSS Novas with sixcylinder and V8 engines, although the older twospeedPowerglidecontinued to be available on the smallerengined Novas. There were 251,900 Novas made in 1969.
Competition to this Nova in 1969 included Ford's Falcon Futura Sports Coupe and Dodge's Dart twodoor hardtop.
