It Just Feels Right sang the voices at the end of Mazdas TV commercials in 1989 and early 1990s and it can just feel right all over again with this early production (10/89) 1990 Crystal White Mazda Miata Roadster, proudly presented by MotoeXotica Classic Cars. Good early examples finally seem to be gaining some traction in the marketplace but for collectors, though, ultraclean, lowmiles early Miatas like this example are the most desired
Built on October 1, 1989 in Hiroshima, Japan, this car entered the US at Port Hueneme, California and was sold in Port Midlothian, Texas (Gulf Coast Mazda). The original Kansas family owners had the Miata all the way to 2014 and then sold it to the previous owner in neighboring Kansas City. There are not many unmolested stock earl NA MX5s left like this one with fewer than 30,000 original miles on the clock
The 1.6L inline fourcylinder engine uses aDOHC16valve alloy head with a lightened crankshaft and flywheel to allow a 7,200rpm redline. An aluminum sump with cooling fins is an unusual feature of this engine. The standardtransmissionwas a fivespeed manual, a unit derived from the one used in the Mazda 929. The gearshift was the subject of close attention during development, with engineers told to make it shift in as small a gear pattern as possible and with minimal effort.
The cars original Crystal White paint and associated trim is in excellent shape, with only the most minor of blemishes possibly visible upon very close inspection. The glass panels are in excellent order, too, and it has a new Robbins black vinyl folding top (installed October 30, 2015) with no rear window defroster but the backlight is glass, not plastic. The cars lights are in great condition, as are the factory alloy wheels, surrounded by General Altimax RT tires, size 185/60R14 at all four corners. This little roadsters body panels are all solid and straight, the engine bay is very tidy and the cargo area and battery are both in good order. Driver convenience features include air conditioning that still blow cold, power steering and power brakes ("A" Package).
Inside, the cars original black bucket seats are in very excellent shape, with matching carpet in good order. The black instrument panel is in one piece and crackfree and the fourspoke steering wheel houses the drivers airbag. Looking for the remote fuel filler release? Its within the center storage binnacle, under the drivers right arm. The door panels, mirror glass, center console and shift lever are all in very good condition. Rounding off the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo with CD player and cassette.
The body shell of the NA was allsteel with a lightweightaluminumhood. Overall dimensions were 156inches in length, 65.9inches in width and 48.6inches in height. Without options, the NA weighed only 2,150lbs.Drag coefficientwas indicated as 0.38. Suspension was an independent double wishbone on all four wheels, with anantiroll barat the front and rear. Fourwheel disc brakes, ventilated at the front, were behind alloy wheels with 185/60HR14radial tires.

If you remember those lazy, hazy summer days in the early 90s, before you married and before you had children, when Mazda made a twoseater that had all the fun of British MGs and Triumphs without the maintenance hassles, you really need to come check this performance enthusiast roadster out in person before someone else buys it
