The Ferrari Testarossa was developed beginning in the late 1970_s as a successor to the BB model. While Ferrari originally intended to give the 512BBi a subtle facelift, it soon became apparent that the model would no longer meet emission requirements in the U.S. and thus a completely new model had to be developed. Ferrari turned to the research team at Pininfarina to design the new car. Heading the project was Leonardo Fioravanti, who previously designed the P5, P6 and the 365 GTB/4 _Daytona._ The name _Testarossa_ (translated as _Red Head_) was named after a series of 1950_s racing cars that featured red painted camshaft covers, a feature that Ferrari_s new Testarossa would inherit. The finished car was unveiled to the public at the 1984 Paris Motor Show at the famed Lido nightclub. With a 390 horsepower 4.9 liter flat-12 engine, the Testarossa was good for a 0-60 mph time of 5 seconds and pushed speeds of 180 mph. Its legendary performance and iconic Pininfarina lines spoke to a generation of enthusiasts, in part to numerous appearances in all forms of media, including a starring role in the popular Television show _Miami Vice_ with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Ferrari introduced the final version of the Testarossa, the 512M, in October 1994. Design improvements were everywhere from open headlamps, adjustable pedals, a more refined interior and slight engine improvements that raised power output to above 430hp. The 512M was produced in limited numbers until 1996 with only 501 examples produced, and of these only 75 would be brought to the U.S. during the 1995 model year. The 512M_s significance is not only derived from its Testarossa heritage, but also that it marked the end of the mid-engine flat-12 Ferrari_s. Today, examples are highly sought after in the U.S. and by collectors across the globe. The 1995 Ferrari Testarossa 512M featured here is finished in stunning Rosso Corsa Red with an impeccably-kept black leather interior. This magnificent motorcar has been meticulously maintained and was the recipient of a $14,000 engine out service that was performed by Ferrari less than 500 miles ago.
