New for 1972 was the larger 2.4-liter engine with Bosch fuel injection, and the new and stronger Type 915 transmission derived from the Porsche 908 racecar. It was a truly impressive sports car, with a weight of only 2,250 pounds the 181 horsepower 911S could go 0-60 in seven seconds and hit a top speed of 143mph. Today it is one of the most sought after Porsches. This striking, tangerine 911S optioned with sport seats and a 5-speed transmission was completed at the Porsche factory in April of 1972. It would quickly make it way to the US and was purchased soon after on May 19th 1972. The first owner, Earnest McGill of Lincoln NE, is documented in the original Porsche Maintenance Record book. Dealer maintenance stamps go all the way from new to April 1980 at 43,117 miles. The car would go through a series of collectors over the years, with one that would own the car twice. During his first ownership in 1990 he would have 901 Shop in Pompano Beach, Florida do a complete mechanical restoration on the very original car that included rebuilding the engine, transmission, shocks, brakes, steering, and the installation of a limited slip differential. During his second ownership in 2007 he would have the engine dynoed, and it would top out at an impressive 185hp and 154 lb/ft of torque at the wheels. Most recently the car was maintained at Willhoit Restoration in Long Beach, CA. There the 911S would be serviced and receive a new muffler, battery, and have the CDI box rebuilt. This is an excellent example of a preservation class 911S. Unmolested, never damaged, and with no corrosion, this car has only received restoration as it was needed, and that work was done to an extremely high standard. Evidence, research, and vehicle condition indicates that the mileage of 87,810 is accurate.
