We have the pleasure to offer this rare and special Sauber C3 chassis 003 for sale.
Built by Peter Sauber and designed by Guy Boisson at Hinwil in Switzerland, the Sauber C3 was the first full Sauber car (except the Cosworth 1600 BDA engine) and also the last of the tube-framed Saubers.
Of the three C3 built, chassis 003, was the last one and was specifically built for Peter Saubers own use. With Gulf sponsorship, Peter drove the Gulf Sauber twice in 1973 and once in 1974 at the St Peterzell-Hemberg hill climb- where he had his last victory before retiring from competition driving.
At the end of 1974, the car was upgraded by Sauber to C3B specification after which it was raced extensively in 1975 still as Gulf Sauber by Klaus Roger List in the Swiss championship. In 1979, the car was sold to Dieter Schulz who re-engined the car with a Cosworth BDG 1996cc unit and repainted it black. Chassis 003 then continued to race in the Interserie until 1986 when it made its way to Canada until 1992 when Dutch historic racer Nico Snoeck brought the car back to Europe. Nico equipped the car with a Cosworth BDG engine mated to a Hewland FGA gearbox and raced the car until 2000 when he sold it to the current, long-term owner. The car was then put on display at the Stavelot museum until entrusted to Gelscoe Motorsport for a complete restoration. Gelscoe rebuilt the car over the space of a year and completed it by mid 2015 when C3-003 made its re-appearance on the race track at Brands Hatch pre-80 historic race event where a defective fuel pump took away a podium finish.
After having owned the car for more than 15 years, the current owner realized that C3-003 is now too fast for him and so he decided to sell the family C3. As the installed cast block BDG engine was cracked the car is offered for sale without engine but given its recent Gelscoe restoration - is otherwise in race-ready condition. The new owner then has the option to fit either a Cosworth BDG-engine of his choice. The car has a new, 2016 issued FIA HTP and comes with usable spares as well as its old, spare bodywork.
This Sauber C3-003 is attractively priced for its new owner and would be a special, rare and welcome entry to various historic racing series for which it is eligible (CER, Pre-80 Endurance, FHR, etc.) and competitive with its light-weight tubular chassis and rear wing...... for more information visit www.RMD.be The ownership and race history of C3-003 is fully known and well documented. We would be happy to provide this information to the discerning buyer. ..... for more information visit www.RMD.be
