Harley reached back 50 years to find the inspiration for its most nostalgic model ever. With its Springer front suspension, hardtail inspired rear end, 16 inch whitewall tires, unique headlight configuration, a fringed seat, fringed saddlebags, a split 4.2 gallon fuel tank and dual fishtail mufflers, the FLSTS captures the flavor of a 1948 Harley 74 with modern amenities. The bike does have a real suspension system. Harleys Softail configuration uses dampers that are laid horizontally beneath the bike so they are not visible, giving the appearance of a hardtail. The front suspension includes a damper and the brakes are hydraulically actuated discs instead of the drum style brakes of 1948. The engine remains the same basic configuration as that Harley Davidson Panhead of 50 years ago. It is still an air cooled, 45-degree, single carb V-Twin, using pushrods and hydraulic lifters to actuate the two valves per cylinder. However, its now six cubic inches bigger at 80 cubic inches and has modern alloy cylinders, five speeds, electronic ignition operation and other modern conveniences. It hasnt lost its heritage as there is no counter balancer and the engine mounts to the frame without rubber vibration dampers. Retro touches include the front mounted horn, spotlights surrounding the headlight, chrome rails around the back of the riders portion of the two piece saddle, a white fender light up front, a tombstone style taillight in the rear, plenty of fringe and a basket weave pattern in the upholstery. This particular example is a 2 owner bike that has just 16,725 original miles. It has been nicely upgraded with a quick release windshield, a passenger back rest, a luggage rack and a rear saddle bag that perfectly matches the rest of the leather. It was last serviced at 15,000 miles at which time the brakes, tires and battery were all replaced. Everything is in proper working order and she is in need of nothing but a new home.
