In 1954, Cadillac undertook the first major restyling of all its models in four years. The newly designed vehicles were lower, wider and longer, with the wheelbase increasing to 133 inches for many of the lines. 1954 marked the first appearance of Cadillacs now iconic wrap around windshield that was first seen on several experimental show cars a few years before. Cadillacs front end was extensively reshaped with an integrated bumper and grille combination that introduced Cadillacs famous dollar grin. Under the hood was Cadillacs proven 331 cubic inch V8 that was retuned and was now good for an increased 230 horsepower. Options and amenities continued to grow in number, with 1954 marking the first appearance of power assisted brakes while the power steering system saw a decrease in ratio, to improve maneuverability, especially at low speeds. With these improvements all across the line the Fleetwood Series 60 Special looked and performed better than ever and the model continued to attract buyers of a higher caliber, thanks in part to its limousine-like stature. The 1954 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood featured here is finished in stunning all black with a beautiful green interior. It was sold new in Idaho where in 1955 it was acquired by the Twin Falls Yellow Cab & Limousine Company. They reserved it for celebrities and other elite clientele when they visited the scenic Sun Valley area. Janet Leigh, Ann Sheridan, Lydia DuPont, and Bing Crosby are all noted as being chauffeured in this Cadillac. However, its most iconic passenger was Marilyn Monroe. During Spring of 1956 it was used to personally transport her to and from the Idaho filming locations for the movie Bus Stop.
