One of the most sought-after 356s to this day, the Porsche 356 Speedster has remained a timeless icon that many collectors still yearn for. A lightened, stripped-down drop top with a few updated styling touches made this car the one you could drive to the track, race around to your hearts content and then drive home afterwards. Destined for American shores, this Speedster was optioned with Sealed-Beam headlights and USA speedometer as described in the original Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. In 1994 the owner decided to do a complete a full restoration, bringing this early 356 speedster model back to its glory days. The owner contacted 356 legend and restoration expert John Willhoit to perform a concours quality restoration. The Willhoit team would take 2 years and ensuring that nothing was left to chance and that everything, down to the last nut and bolt, was restored properly. Stripped down to bare metal, it was evident that the car was never in an accident and even went as far as not having any major dents. Each panel was test fitted individually ensuring perfect fitment prior to painting. The car was completed in January of 1995 and delivered to its happy owner. Following this great restoration, the owner would participate in many shows and concours. The 356 would obtain 1st place in the Porsche Class at the Southern California Concours in 1996. That same year, it would win the same class at the Palos Verdes Concours Class as well as best of show at the Palm Springs Concours. The owner decided to sell the car in 1998 to a collector in Illinois, who would take great care of the car in the years to come. Since the restoration, the 356 has accumulated a total of 2,620 miles in the last 26 years. Since then it has also been presented at different concours and car shows such as the Carmel Cars on the Avenue Concours DElelegance in 2013 where it placed 1st in the Porsche speedster class. Upon arrival at Canepa, a detailed inspection revealed an exemplary level of workmanship throughout, and the Speedster was road tested to confirm correct operation of all systems. Included in the sale is a comprehensive pre-delivery servicing of all mechanical and electrical components, ensuring a turn-key experience for its next caretaker.
