The XK140 was introduced as a 1955 model in late 1954. Like its predecessor, the XK120, the XK140 nomenclature was reference to the vehicle's top speed of 140 miles per hour. Improvements over the 120 were evident everywhere from improved braking, suspension and steering. Customers appreciated the increase in interior space, while sporting drivers were quite fond of the retuned 3.4 litre XK engine, which was now good for 190 horsepower. Beginning in 1956, Jaguar offered a fully automatic Borg-Warner 3-speed gearbox that made driving the XK140 in traffic a breeze. This incredibly rare option would only make it into less than 400 XK140s, ensuring their desirability still to this day. The XK140s most coveted option was the Special Equipment package. Referred to as the SE model in England or the MC model in the United States, this performance group offered the standard XK140 engine block with upgraded C-type cylinder heads for improved carburation, stronger suspension, and dual exhaust, resulting in an increase in horsepower from 190 to 210. Certainly a rare option, it can be estimated that only the most discerning customers would have purchased a XK140 with both the automatic gearbox and the Special Equipment performance group. Few would be built new and only a handful of XK140SE Automatics are known to exist today. The 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC Fixed Head Coupe featured here is finished in stunning all black with a beautiful Biscuit leather interior. It was delivered new to Southern California and comes equipped with its incredibly rare drivetrain setup, chrome wire wheels, fog lamps, new whitewall tires and more.
