One of 4,602 examples made in 1963, this one was made in Fords Lorain, Ohio factory on March 28, 1963 and was delivered to the San Jose, California region. The Palmers of Menlo Park, California bought this car Towne Motor Company in Redwood City, California on April 24, 1963. These firstgeneration Falcon Sprint cars formed the basis for the Mustangs released by Ford a year later. Many (if not most) of the interior, chassis, suspension and drivetrain components were derived from those used on the 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint and/or Fairlane models. In simplest terms, the 1963 Falcon Sprint was nearly mechanically identical to the 1964 Mustang while being aesthetically different. Dressed in Corinthian White (code M), the cars exterior paint and trim are in overall excellent condition, though there are a few imperfections visible upon close inspection. The cars glass panels clear and intact while the lights are clear and hazefree. This Falcon rolls on Cooper whitewall tires, size P185/80R13, at all four corners, surrounding wire wheels. The cars bumpers and bodywork are in excellent condition, including the contrasting red powerfolding top. The trunk is lined, has a fullsize spare tire with a cover and the cargo area is in excellent order. The original radio is in a box. The engine bay is extremely tidy, right down to the windshield washer fluid bag, and the battery appears fresh. Under the hood is a unique hybrid a 1966 Ford Acode 289 CID V8 block with Challenger 260 CID V8 heads and other topoftheengine parts. Buttoned to this engine is a FordOMatic twospeed automatic transmission (code 3) linked to a 3.25:1 (code 4) rear end. Driver convenience features include vintage airconditioning and power steering. Inside, the red vinyl (code 85A) front buckets and rear bench seats are in excellent shape, as is the matching carpet. The red, padded metal instrument panel is also in fantastic order. There is even a 6,000rpm tachometer mounted atop the dash while the red factory threespoke steering wheel invites the driver to take a seat, close the door and motorvate. The inner door panels and mirror glass are in very good order while the center console and shift lever are in good condition. Rounding out the interior is a Custom Auto Sound AM/FM stereo with cassette player. In 1963, Ford added even more Falcon models, a fourdoor Futura and a Deluxe wagon. Futura Convertible and Futura Sports Convertible models were also included in the 1963 range.Later, hardtops, and the new Sprint model were introduced. Halfway through the model year, the Fairlane's 164hp Challenger 260CIDV8engine was offered for the first time. The Falcon was climbing in trim level from its budget beginnings, as Ford attempted to wring more profit from the line. The only time a V8 option was available in a firstgeneration Falcon was the 1963 model and these cars were produced in very limited numbers (Sprint twodoor hardtop (bucket seats) 10,479 produced and Sprint convertible (bucket seats) 4,602 produced).
