The 450 SEL 6.9 succeeded the 300 SEL 6.3 as the king of Mercedes-Benz super-sedans. A muscle car in a business suit the W116-based 450 SEL featured a punched-out version of the earlier cars overhead cam M100 V8 rated at over 280 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque. The 6.9 could reach speeds of nearly 150 miles per hour yet it had all the refinement space and luxury expected of a Mercedes-Benz sedan.This superb example was delivered new in October of 1978 via Estate Motors in New York.
