This particular example was built in December 1993 at BMWs Dingolfing, Germany plant. Dressed in Bright Red (code 314) the cars paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with just a few minor blemishes visible upon close inspection particularly on the cars nose. Its windows, including the rear window with its rear defroster, are clear and intact but there is a minor tinting issue at the left front window corner. The cars lights are hazefree and unbroken. The bodywork is solid and straight, the cars bumpers fit tightly to the body and the engine bay is extremely tidy. This 8series rides on low profile Accelera PHI2 radials surrounding 19inch aluminum honeycomb wheels. The tires and wheels are in overall satisfactory condition. The 840ci used a 4.0LM60B40 engine with 10.0:1 compression and breathing through dual exhausts. Backing up this engine is a fourspeed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features are extensive airconditioning, cruise control, bodycolored sunroof, power steering, tilt steering column, power fourwheel disc brakes with antilock, power door locks, power windows, power sideview mirrors, power and heated front seats and tinted windows. Car also has dual front airbags and AllSeason Traction Control. Inside, the cars black Nappa Leather interior (code 525), is in overall excellent order. The front buckets and rear seat look fantastic, as does the matching black carpet. The contrasting gray headliner is in similar fine shape. The threespoke MPower steering wheel faces the driver and looks great. The inner door panels and instrument panel are in very good order, as is the center console and shift lever. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD players. Development of the 8 Series began in July 1981, with the final design phase and production development starting in 1986. The 8 Series debuted at theFrankfurt Motor Show in early September 1989. The 8 Series was designed to move beyond the market of the original 6 Series. The 8 Series had substantially improved performance, as well as a far higher purchase price. BMW used computeraided designtools, still unusual at the time, to design the cars allnew body. Combined with wind tunnel testing, the resulting car had adrag coefficientof 0.29, a major improvement from the previousBMW M6/635CSis 0.39. It was one of the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronicdrivebywire throttle. The 8 Series was one of BMWs first cars, together with theZ1, to use amultilinkrear axle.
