Overview

1957 Ford Thunderbird

Price: USD $59,900

In response to the Thunderbirds biggest rival, the Chevrolet Corvette, Ford would introduce some big changes for the 1957 model year. The modifications included a face lift which consisted of a reshaped front bumper and an enlarged grill while the rear end was fitted with larger rear fins and tail lights, allowing the spare tire to re-enter the trunk compartment. Fourteen inch wheels helped to give the vehicle a lower stance while updated interior trim and a newly designed dashboard helped customers feel more invited and sophisticated. Optional during the 1957 model year was the E-code set up, which unleashed the full potential of the Ford 312 V8 engine. Featuring increased head flow, aluminum intake and dual Holley 4-barrel carburetors, the E-code engine was capable of 270 horsepower which allowed the Thunderbird to really fly. Of the 21,380 1957 Thunderbirds only 1,441 would leave the factory with the E-code set up, thus rendering it a rare and desirable automobile. The 1957 Ford Thunderbird E-Code Convertible featured here is finished in classic Colonial White with a beautiful black and white interior. It was recently released from the personal collection of country music superstar, Jim Owen. Showing 26,123 miles, it has been wonderfully restored and comes well equipped with its port hole hardtop, chrome wire wheels, fender skirts, power features, and more. We are proud to offer it to the most sophisticated collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the provenance of this Great American Classic. Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013, 16% in 2014 and 17% in 2015 while posting gains of 467% over the last ten years. BIOGRAPHY OF JIM OWEN Jim Owen is an American singer/songwriter. When he was a child, Owen saw Hank Williams Sr. perform and became fascinated with the star and his music. After completing his education, he relocated to Nashville to work as a songwriter. Over the next few years, several artists topped the charts with songs that Owen had written. He never lost his obsession with Hank Williams and begun to impersonate his idol by practicing his mannerisms and stage presentation. Owen is the recipient of two Emmy awards, one for Hank, a PBS television special, and another for his portrayal of Hank Williams Sr. in a made for TV movie that he both wrote and starred in. He garnered an Emmy nomination for Hank Williams: The Man and His Music. He produced An Evening With Hank Williams, a one-man live stage show which featured backing tracks provided by Hanks band The Drifting Cowboys. In 1985, he wrote and produced a 10-hour Hank Williams radio tribute which was broadcasted throughout the U.S. on New Years Day. Owen has also appeared as Williams at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas and at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He still writes songs and, at times, works as an auctioneer near his Tennessee home. While he is also known for his collection of classic cars, he is most recognized among country music fans all over the world.
