True Survivor 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SEB Coupe

The next amazing vehicle up for grabs in our Benicia showroom is this impressive 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SEB 2 Door Coupe with black exterior paint and a matching black leather interior.  This sensational survivor features the factory 2.2L six-cylinder engine under the hood with the numbers-matching automatic transmission and virtually all of the factory accessories, exactly as it rolled off the assembly line almost 56 years ago.  This driver-quality classic has remained unmolested with the same family throughout its lifetime and it still runs and drives perfectly with 139,439 lifetime miles.

Resided w/ One Family since Leaving the Showroom Floor

This 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SEB Coupe was purchased new by the current owner’s grandfather in 1963 and maintained at incredible levels throughout its lifetime.  The current owner inherited this beautiful classic in the early 1990’s with approximately 100,000 miles on the odometer and he chose to rebuild the engine at that time.  Almost nothing else has changed over the past 55+ years though- you are looking at the original factory paint, the original interior and wood grain inserts, the factory headliner and all of the original trim.  We also have the original sales invoice and full service documentation dating back to the early 80’s.

In terms of condition, this 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SEB Coupe does show some slight signs of aging- the factory paint has some minor scratches/blemishes despite still shining brightly.  There are a few minor areas with rust as well.  The interior also shows some signs of wear and the driver’s seat would need to be reupholstered; the headliner also has a few water stains that could use attention.  Besides those minor issues though, this classic is in phenomenal overall shape and truly defies the tests of time.  The wood in particular is in exceptional condition.

Out on the open road, this 1963 Mercedes Benz 220SEB Coupe still drives like new with nice performance and an ultra-smooth overall feel.  It appears to be mechanically sound and everything seems to work properly both inside and under the hood.  This one would make a great candidate for a complete restoration or it could be enjoyed immediately by addressing a few cosmetic issues- it will be a truly tough decision for the next owner.
