This 1931 Ford Model A Victoria Leatherback is a wonderfully restored pre-war Ford in the desirable and rare Victoria body style. By 1931, the Ford Model A was both ubiquitous on US roadways but also found itself reaching the end of its road with regards to its appeal to American buyers. When the Model A debuted in 1928, it was a major advancement in technology and style from Ford previous car, the Model T, and those updates helped Ford sell millions of Model A cars. However, when the 1930s rolled around, Fords competitors at Plymouth and Chevrolet were either catching up or beating Ford. For example, both Chevy and Plymouth had 6 cylinder engines whereas Ford was still using their ever reliable 4 cylinder. Nonetheless, Ford entered its final year of Model A production in 1931 having sold around 3 million units up until that point and managed to sell nearly 3.5 million units in the 4 year production run from 1928-1931. April 14, 1931, marked another major milestone for the Ford Motor Company when it produced its 20 millionth vehicle, that being of course, a Model A. Initially introduced in November of 1930, the Victoria bodied Model A was one of the last new body styles for Fords Model A line and thus are among the rarest Model A bodies in the hands of enthusiasts and collectors. Known for its striking silhouette comprised of a new more slanted windshield that swept up to a straighter top and then wrapped down through the bustle-back rear, the Model A Victoria was a major step forward for Ford design in the early thirties. The interior cabin was also a bit different from typical Model A bodies since Ford had lowered the rear floor of the car to accommodate for the lower roofline while not sacrificing passenger headroom. Later on, the Victoria bodies were also highly desirable in the street rod world so to find a nice stock one, such as this particular example, that has not been chopped, channeled, or modified in any way is a wonderful treat. This particular 31 Model A Victoria comes to us from a large private collector who cared for the car for a number of years. Under the hood on this Model A is a 200.5 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 4 Cylinder engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that was said to have created 40 horsepower when new. The 200.5 CID 4 Cylinder engine is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted via a floor mounted shifter. For a Model A, this Vicky is nicely appointed with accessories and options. The accessory radiator stone guard and Flying Quail radiator cap are in wonderful condition and together dress up the front end treatment. A pair of chrome cowl lights further add to the beautiful front appearance package and improve visibility going down the road. Dual sidemounted spare tires augment the elevated look of this classic Ford Model A. A rear-mounted luggage rack is also a welcome addition to this Victoria-bodied Model A since it makes it easy to carry luggage on an overnight cruise or even a cooler for some cold beverages at the local car show. Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires on Straw painted wire wheels, accented by chrome beauty rings, this 31 Model A Victoria has a fantastic look cruising down the road. The steel body of this Victoria has been beautifully refinished in an elegant two-tone color scheme consisting of Kewanee Green and Elkpoint Green with Straw-colored pinstriping. The steel fenders have been refinished in black paint that matches the reupholstered artificial leather Leatherback top, completing the exterior look of the car. The interior on this 31 Model A is just gorgeous! The front opera seats and rear bench have been reupholstered with Beige mohair. The matching mohair door panels, beige carpeting, black steering wheel, pull-down rear shades, and woodgrain dash are all in fantastic condition as well and retain the cars wonderful stock appearance.
