*1959 Auto Union 1000 SP Coupe*Founded in 1932 Auto Union AG was the result of merging four separate German auto manufacturers into a single organization. Building everything from small economy cars to luxurious Horch touring cars as well as some of the most highly regarded Pre-War racing cars in the world Auto Union had a unique angle in the German car market catering to everyone. Although the Auto Union brand does not exist any more their logo- four interconnected rings- can be seen on the front of their most successful sub-brand- Audi- to this day.Produced in 1959 this Auto Union 1000 SP Coupe is one of less than 5 000 coupes built between 1958 and 1965 and is finished in red with a black roof and matching two tone interior. Debuting at the 1957 Frankfurt Motor Show the 1000 SP Coupes designer Josef Dienst was inspired by the first generation Ford Thunderbird for the shape of the car which can be seen in the front grille and prominent rear tailfins. Unlike the Thunderbird the Auto Union was powered by a 981cc Two-Stroke Inline-3 cylinder that was routed through a four speed column shift manual gearbox and sent power to the front wheels. On the inside there are two bucket seats in the front and a two seat bench in the rear both upholstered in black with red centers and matching red piping.This 1000 SP is in great overall condition and has been refurbished by a previous owner to bring the car to a very nice driver condition vehicle. Recently the four wheel drum brakes have been adjusted and the 15 wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich whitewall radial tires. Since its refurbishment the car has attended numerous shows and won Best of Show in the Audi class at Legends of the Autobahn in Monterey CA in 2019.
