This 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible is a beautifully restored, southern pony car with a fantastic story! In the early 1960s, there was a gap in the American automotive market; there were no cool compact cars coming out of Detroit. However, on April 17, 1964, that all changed when Ford introduced the Mustang at the New York Worlds Fair. Lee Iacoccas initial vision for the Mustang was a sporty, youth oriented car with a long hood, short deck, and a modest price tag. That vision ultimately snowballed into one of the most successful Ford vehicles of all time and launched an entire new genre of muscle cars known as Pony Cars. The 1965 version of the Mustang featured just a few changes from the 1964-1/2 versions, though most notably was a change from a generator to an alternator setup, and the base engine was upgraded from 170 cubic inches to 200 cubic inches of displacement. This particular Mustang Convertible has a very interesting story in that it was ordered by a foreign government official working here in the United States for export, but the car never ended up being exported.
