When American manufacturers were building big-displacement muscle cars Saab was experimenting with two-stroke three cylinder and four stroke V4 engines in aerodynamic bodies for maximum efficiency. The Saab 96 was produced between 1960 and 1980 and represents some of Saabs most unique engineering solutions in a shape that looks like nothing else on the road. This example was built in 1967 and benefits from a comprehensive restoration under the care of a prior owner.Finished in Beige the 96 was a re-styling of the previous 93 but with a longer hood to accommodate for greater engine choices. The car sits on a set of steel wheels with polished Saab hubcaps on them and chrome bumpers are fitted front and rear with overriders. At the rear pop-out windows allow for nice pull-through ventilation and Saab branded mudflaps sit behind the rear wheelsThe interior is very simple yet still quite attractive with the seats wrapped in brown cloth and a white painted dashboard that houses a 100 mph speedometer fuel gauge and water temperature gauge which are all ringed with chrome. To the left of the driver sits heater controls while an under-dash radio is off to the right.
