*1969 Ford Mustang GT500 Tribute*Less than a year after the start of Mustang production Ford was looking to add some racing credentials to the sporty coupes already long list of successes. To do this they went outside the Ford corporation and tapped noted racing driver and car builder Carroll Shelby to take the Mustang from what some considered a secretarys car and turn it into a true world class performer. Starting with the GT350 in 1965 the partnership between Ford and Shelby only lasted four years terminating in 1969 but it resulted in some of the most famous and fastest cars to come out of Ford in the era. During the 1969 model year Ford and Shelby were producing both the GT350 which was equipped with a 351ci V8 and the GT500 which was fitted with a powerful 428ci V8.This 1969 Mustang Shelby GT500 Tribute is a beautiful car that looks the part of an original GT500 but benefits from an extremely potent 428ci V8 with a Paxton supercharger on top. Finished in a stunning bright shade of Ferrari Fly Yellow the body has been fitted with all of the signature features found on the 1969 GT500 including the unique front and rear bumpers center exit exhaust and hood with integrated NACA ducts. Running down the side are a pair of black GT500 accent stripes and 428 Cobra Jet badging is affixed as well. Thanks to their completely unique front and rear fascias the 1969 GT350 and GT500 are without a doubt the most unique looking Mustangs to ever come out of the Shelby partnership.On the interior a pair of sporty high-back Shelby bucket seats are upholstered in black vinyl and are fitted with 3-point seatbelts in this car. Between the front and rear seats a rollbar has been installed which both increases safety and adds torsional rigidity to the car making for improved handling. Period correct wood veneer is applied to the door cards and dashboard and in front of the driver sits a pair of Shelby gauges and a pair of extra auxiliary gauges are fitted in the center console. Additionally Shelby accessories on the interior include the center arm rest floor mats wood rimmed steering wheel shift lever and glove box trim. An updated air conditioning unit blows nice and cold and a Kenwood head unit with auxiliary input is installed below the central air vent on the dash.Under the hood is where things get particularly exciting in this car- a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 puts down plenty of power and torque as is but in this example a Paxton Novi Supercharger has been installed to make for a truly thrilling drive. To make sure this engine runs as smoothly as possible MSD electronic ignition has been installed along with an aluminum radiator and electric cooling fans that keep the car from overheating even on the hottest days. This engine is backed up by a 3-speed C6 automatic gearbox and sends power to the rear wheels. In an effort to improve the roadholding a 4-link rear suspension with subframe connectors and updated control arms and sway bars have all been fitted. Additionally powerful Baer brakes have been installed behind a set of staggered 17 front and 18 rear US Mag Wheels.This beautiful GT500 Tribute is the perfect car for the enthusiast who loves the looks and performance of the Shelby GT500 but wants a car they can use without worry.
