This 1973 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a gorgeous, real deal Z/28 that is absolutely loaded with options and ready to be your next summer cruiser! In the mid-1960s, Chevrolet found itself lacking a major product categorya Pony Car. See, at the time, Chevrolet had the Chevy II/Nova and the Corvair, but these cars were economy cars not seen as cool to the younger generation. Moreover, neither car was a true competitor to Fords wildly successful Mustang with its long hood and short deck that gave it a sporty and stylish look, all while remaining affordable (and attractive) to young buyers. However, that all changed in 1967 when Chevrolet debuted its own version of a Pony Car, the Camaro. The first iterations of the Chevrolet Camaro had all of the hallmarks of a Pony Car: long hood, short deck, stylish looks, sporty feel, and an affordable price tag, all while coming with performance-oriented options like big V8 motors, 4 speed transmissions, and beefier suspensions. While the Camaro was a huge sales success for Chevrolet in 1967 and 1968, Chevy found Camaro sales slowing by 1969 so much so that the GM marque did not even introduce a 1970 Camaro with the rest of its 1970 models in the fall of 1969. Ultimately, the 1970 Camaro made its debut on February 26, 1970 with a brand new look! The 2nd generation Camaro sported a fastback-style rear roofline and an iconic snout-style egg crate grille, and it only came in a Sports Coupe hardtop body. On September 21, 1972, Chevrolet debuted the 1973 Camaro models now with a greater focus on luxury rather than outright performance. The Super Sport (SS) performance package was replaced with a higher trim Luxury Touring LT package with only the Z/28 performance package remaining for folks seeking higher performance options. The 73 Camaro Z/28 came with a higher output 350 V8 with a single 4 barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, as well as a sport suspension, positraction rear axle, and power brakes, all as standard equipment. Additionally, the 1973 Z/28 got its own unique look including blacked-out grilles, special Z/28 wheels with raised letter tires, sport mirrors, 4-spoke sport steering wheels, and special Z/28 badging throughout. The 73 Camaro was also much more luxurious inside than the first generation Camaros with plusher high back bucket seats and more intricate door panel designs. Chevrolets emphasis on luxury was also evident in 1973 since it marked the first time that the Z/28 package was available with air conditioning. In total, 89,988 Camaros were produced in 1973 but a mere 11,574 were equipped with the Z/28 package which makes this particular Z/28 Camaro quite a rare car. Under the hood on this Z/28 Camaro is a 350 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 245 horsepower when new. The 350 V8 is backed by a 4 speed manual transmission paired with a Hurst shifter that make this 2nd generation Camaro an absolute blast to drive! Exhaust exits this Z/28s V8 power plant via a dual exhaust setup that generates a terrific throaty sound out of the tailpipes. This 73 Camaro comes loaded with options! With power front disc brakes, bringing this Z/28 Camaro to a complete stop is a breeze and the overall driving experience is much improved. Power steering is another wonderful option on this Chevy Camaro since it makes squeezing into a tight parking space so much easier. Further aiding with parking efforts are dual outside color-matched sport mirrors. Youll be sure to keep the rubber to the pavement when driving this Z/28 since it comes equipped with a positraction rear differential. Front and rear spoilers not only assist with aerodynamics and performance, but also elevate the exterior appearance of this beautiful Chevrolet. Riding on a set of raised letter radial tires mounted on the special Z/28 wheels, this 1973 Z/28 Camaro has a fantastic look and even better ride. The chrome brightwork and trim around the
