This elegant DS420 is a fine example of Daimler?s exclusive factory-built limousine. Presented in a handsome combination of black with royal claret body sides and original olive leather trim. The car is largely unrestored except for some paintwork and appears well-maintained and with an honest, usable character. It features factory air conditioning, electric windows, dual jump seats, and a unique radio console for the rear compartment. Burl wood trim covers the dash, door caps, and division panel. It starts right up and drives wonderfully.
Riding on a stretched version of the Jaguar 420G platform, the DS420 shared the big Jaguar?s independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and powerful XK twin-cam inline six with dual carburetors. Finished and opulently trimmed in traditional wood, leather, and wool by Vanden Plas coachbuilders. The Daimler DS420 was among the last factory-built limousines available anywhere, serving as the official transport of the British Royal Family for many from its introduction in 1968 through the end of production a remarkable 24 years later in 1992.
