*1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1*In 1986 General Motors acquired Lotus Cars in England in an effort to keep Lotus building cars and to avail themselves to the ace team of engineers at the company to help with chassis and engines for new GM cars. Shortly after the purchase was complete Chevrolet approached Lotus to help them turn the C4 Corvette into the fastest car in the world- and Lotus delivered. The C4 was a decent performer for the time but with its L98 V8 it wasnt going to be out setting any records and the chassis needed a bit of fine tuning before it could play in the big leagues with the likes of the Ferrari Testarossa and Porsche 964 Turbo. In an effort to make their new parent company happy Lotus set to work essentially redesigning significant parts of the car from the ground up to turn it into a real world class performer. Upon its debut at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show the all new Corvette ZR1 quickly gained the nickname of King of The Hill thanks to its prodigious power next level handling and outrageous 180 mph top speed. This 1990 Corvette ZR1 is from the first year of production and is finished in the quintessential ZR1 color scheme of Bright Red over Saddle Brown Leather and shows 66 675 miles on the odometer. This example is in very good condition overall and is currently sitting on a set of C4 5-spoke wheels from a later model ZR1 that look great and are fitted with a set of sticky performance tires. It also includes a copy of the original build sheet window sticker books service records ZR-1 Pizza Box welcome kit and a car cover. Although the ZR1 was a drastically different car from the standard C4 Corvette it was not its own standalone model but instead a $27 016 option package which essentially doubled the price of a regular Corvette. It was hugely expensive but what you got was really worth it- the body was 3 wider than a standard Corvette in the rear to accommodate the outrageous 315 section rear tires and new rear bodywork squared off the 4 round rear lights as an easy differentiator from the back. The interior of the ZR1 is exactly what you would hope for from a supercar with heavily bolstered seats and a cockpit like dashboard. In the center stack buttons fill the space to control the on board computer HVAC and Bose-Delco stereo. The gauge pod in front of the driver features a combination of analog and digital dials and allows you to keep track of all the engines vitals. There are a number of modern cars that have two keys to unlock a more powerful engine mode- but the C4 ZR1 was the first- with just a turn of a secondary key in the center console engine power went from 200 horsepower to 375 and you were ready for the track. There are thousands of changes that separate a ZR1 from a standard C4 but without a doubt the biggest change is the jewel of an engine known as the LT-5. Designed by Lotus and built by Mercury Marine in Stillwater Oklahoma the LT-5 is a V8 which for the first time in Corvette history features double overhead camshafts and 32 valves. Producing 375 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque the ZR-1s powerband is almost jet-engine-like in its delivery and will happily pull all the way to redline with a massive thrust of torque behind you. Backing the engine up is a stout ZF 6-speed manual transmission that offers pleasant notchy throws. When it was new to prove that not only was the ZR1 fast but unlike its European rivals it was going to be dependable Chevrolet went to a test track in Fort Stockton Texas to set numerous speed records including averaging 175.8 mph over 24 hours on the track.Given the ZR1s world beating performance and striking appearance they are still a relative bargain when compared to its competition in the period. These cars still offer an outstanding driving experience and this car is particularly special with its host of accessories and documentation.*Additional Information* * ZR1 Pizza-Box Welcome Kit * Car Cover * Service Invoices * Shop Manual * Window Sticker * Copy of Build Sheet*Standard Features* * LT5 DOHC V8 * 375 Horsepower * 370 Lb-Ft of Torque * 6-Speed Manual Transmission * 6-Way Power Sport Seats * TPMS * Solar Glass * Delco-Bose Gold Stereo * CD Player * Cassette * Air Conditioning * Bosch ABS II * Independent Front Suspension * 5-Link Rear Suspension * Power Windows * Power/Heated Rearview Mirrors * Leather Wrapped WheelFor more information on this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 or any of our High-Performance Luxury Exotic and Special Interest cars always in stock contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to drop by our 40 000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury Exotic High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
