With dual-clutch Porsche PDK transmissions sweeping through their top-tier lineup, Porsche announced that the GT3 and GT3 RS would no longer be offered with a manual transmission. An uproar ensued throughout the Porsche driving community, voicing that by removing the manual option they were removing one of the best and most engaging features when driving a Porsche. To quell the flames, Porsche announced a car to celebrate an anniversary fifty years in the making, the 2016 Porsche 911R. Limited to just 991 examples produced for the world, the new Porsche 911R was created to honor the anniversary of the legendary 1967 Porsche 911R. Drawing inspiration from a mythical model built 50 years prior, these new 911s carry many of the same principles and design characteristics that made the original R so formidable. High power, low weight, razor sharp handling, all tightly wound into one cohesive package. Available initially only to Porsche 918 owners, the 911Rs sold out immediately, and would become a lust-worthy 911 variant that is both a highly prized collectible, and Porsche driving enthusiasts holy grail. This 2016 Porsche 911R produced in December of 2016 and was optioned with Bruces favorite GT silver metallic paint color and a Black and Tarpan Brown leather interior, stitched in GT silver, with the total options list ticking over $31,000 to the MSRP. This is my favorite color on a 911R. Its timeless, and perfectly suits the design style on these cars says Bruce Canepa. 911Rs came heavily equipped with standard equipment, including options such as Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB) and rear axle steering. However, the first owner checked options including the Two-tone Black and Tarpan Brown leather interior, Single-mass flywheel, Front Axle Lift system, LED headlights in black with PDLS, Sport Chrono Package, Extended interior package door panel in leather and dashboard trim in leather, Bose Surround Sound System, Extended range fuel tank - 23.9 gallons, Tail Lights with clear glass look, Sport Design mirror upper in carbon fiber, door sills in carbon fiber, and more. Total MSRP with options came out to be over $216,000. The first and only owner of this 911R was the owner of a prominent Porsche dealership, and was kept in the dealerships inventory since new. As such, it has never been registered to an individual. While the car remained with the owner over the last 8 years, its not hard to imagine why the car looks in as-new condition, with the 911R only covering 1,479 miles since delivery. Prior to arriving at Canepa, the car received a complete and comprehensive service, and a complete set of new Michelin tires. This incredibly well optioned 911R still presents as it did upon delivery when new. My favorite contemporary 911, says Bruce Canepa. Now available at Canepa for the next owner looking for one of the most thrilling 911 driving experiences ever made, the 911R will go down in history books as one
