Debuting a full year before its new cars, General Motors unveiled its new, postWWII pickups on June 28, 1947. Here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, we are proud to present one of these New Design Series trucks, a 1950 GMC Series 150 Ton Pickup.

This truck has been nicely restored. Its black exterior is in overall very good shape with a high quality repaint. The windows are clear and intact, as are the trucks lights. It rides on four Tornel biasply tires, size 7.5017, at all four corners. Each tire is wrapped around red wheels topped by factory moon wheel covers. The tires and wheels look great and the red complements the black exterior very well. There is a sidemounted fullsized spare tire on the passenger side of the truck, complete with its own wheel cover.

This trucks bodywork is straight and solid, including the cargo bed, which has partial side stakes and a wooden floor. The engine bay is fairly tidy, the battery appears in very good order and the bumpers fit well to the body.

Under the hood is GMCs 228 CID overhead valve straight sixcylinder engine, mated to a fourspeed manual transmission.

Inside, the trucks original brown interior shows some delightful patina and is a curious contrast to the refreshed exterior. The bench seat is in very good order. Floormats replace carpet and the headliner is in good order. The bronze instrument panel, with full instrumentation, looks great and really telegraphs that postWWII vibe. However, the fuel gauge is inoperable. The factory, threespoke steering wheel is present. It, the inner door panels, mirror glass and shift lever are all in good shape. This a radio delete model.

Chevrolet's first major redesign postWorld War II, theAdvanceDesignseries was billed as a bigger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlierAK Series.

The same basic design family was used for all of its trucks including theSuburban, panel trucks, canopy expressandcab overs. The cab overs used the same basic cab configuration and similar grille but used a shorter and taller hood and different fenders. The unique Cab Over fenders and hood required a custom cowl area, which makes the Cab Over Engine cabs and normal truck cabs incompatible with one another while all truck cabs of all weights interchange.

WhileGeneral Motorsused this front end sheet metal, and to a slightly lesser extent the cab, on all of its trucks except for theCab Overs, there are three main sizes of this truck: the half, threequarter and full ton capacities in short and long wheelbase.

For 1950, telescopicshock absorbersreplaced the previous knee action leveraction type. It was the last year for driver's side cowl vent; its handle is now flat steel, not a maroon knob as in previous years.

Competition to this GMC in 1950 included Chevrolets Advance Design Ton, Fords F250 and Dodges B1C Ton models

This truck is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 89,977 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE
