We are please to present this superb 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday SceniCoupe. This car still retains a lot of its originality and was sold new in Waterbury Vermont in 1959

Assembled at General Motors Framingham, Massachusetts facility, this car is dressed in Frost Blue (code J), the paint appears white at first glance, especially on cloudy days. The cars paint and trim are in near excellent condition, as are the windows, including the compound curved windshield and fastbacklike rear glass, which created a large, airy greenhouse for driver and passengers. The cars lights are all clear and intact, including the headlights separated by the parking lamps and the reverse lights set into the rear bumper. This car rides on BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall tires, sized 9.0014, surrounding factory wheel covers. The engine bay is very tidy, highly detailed and the battery appears new. All of the cars body panels are solid and straight and the bumpers look great, too.

Under that counterbalanced hood is a 394 CID Rocket V8 engine, buttoned to a Hydramatic automatic transmission and a 3.64 rear end. Driver convenience features include RotoMatic power steering and power brakes. Out back, the spacious trunk is in good order and includes a fullsized spare tire.

Inside, the original blue and ivory (code 338) interior is eyecatching. The seats are in original very good order, as is the blue carpet and matching headliner. The blue and ivory instrument panels has the proper jet age effect, with its dual cutout sections and the original, however, the horn and the windshield wipers are inoperable but the twospoke steering wheel faces the driver and still looks futuristic. The inner door panels, mirror glass and gearshift lever are all in good order. Rounding out this interior is a factory AM radio.

This car comes with a treasure trove of period documentation, includingDocumentation includes original owners manual, original owners protection policy, various user guides, exterior color guide, service manual, various images, record album, posters, newspaper clippings, plus other assorted items.

This car is an excellent driver and would make for a unique entry at a local cruise night or to add to your 1950s, GM or Oldsmobile collection so head over and check it out in person

All Oldsmobiles were completely restyled for 1959, with the 88 series given longer, lower and wider styling on a GM Bbody chassis. The 88 shared its appearance with the topmodelOldsmobile 98. Styling highlights for the new models, promoted as the "Linear Look," included sixwindow styling on fourdoor pillared sedans, glassy semifastback rooflines on Holiday coupes and flatblade rooflines with thin windshield and Cpillars on Holiday sedans, which created a large open greenhouse effect. Twodoor hardtops were called a "Scenicoupe," fourdoor hardtops "Sport Sedan." While many 1959 model cars featured bigger and sharper fins, Olds flattened its horizontally and reduced chrome from 1958 for a much cleaner look. Wheelbases on 88 models increased by one inch to 123 inches.

For 1959, the Super 88 series was positioned between the Dynamic 88 and the NinetyEight series. It came in five different bodystyles including coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. The Super 88 was well equipped, having all of the equipment found on the Dynamic 88 plus the addition of rocker panel moldings, parking brake lights, vinyl headliner, special emblems and carpeting.

Competition to this Oldsmobile in 1959 included Buicks Invicta twodoor hardtop, DeSotos Adventurer twodoor hardtop, Dodges Royal Lancer twodoor hardtop, Edsels Ranger twodoor and Mercurys Montclair twodoor.
