For the first time since 1976, the 1984 Cadillac Eldorado returned as a droptop. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 84 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible, one of only 3,300 made in 1984. Eldorado Biarritzes only came in three exterior colors, Cotillion White, Hatteras Blue and Autumn Maple Firemist.

This example was made during the second week of May in 1984 at General Motors Linden, New Jersey factory (VIN code E). Taking the finished cars from Linden, the American Sunroof Company, now called American Specialty Cars (ASC), in Lansing, Michigan, converted the coupes into convertibles before shipping modified units to dealers. ASCs work included reinforcing inner rockers, radiator support crossrods, and many body braces. Front and rear antiroll bars and tougher suspension components were added, along with the vinyl convertible top. The convertible weighed 179 pounds more than the coupe from which it evolved.

The Autumn Maple Firemist Metallic paint and trim (code 74), are in overall very good order. The cars bodywork is straight and solid, its engine bay is very tidy, the battery appears in good order and the cars chrome bumpers are in very good order but the bodycolor Endura filler between the body and the bumpers needs to be replaced.

This Eldo rolls on whitewall radials, size 225/70R15 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted to a steel wheel, topped with locking wire wheel covers. The tires and wheels are all in satisfactory condition.

Under the hood is Cadillacs 4.1L HT4100 V8 engine (VIN code 8). The 4.1L V8 engine was an inhouse design that mated castiron heads to an aluminum block. The motor is bolted to a Turbo Hydramatic 3254L fourspeed automatic transmission with a 3.15:1 final drive. Driver convenience features include digital electronic climate control, electronic cruise control, power steering, power fourwheel disc brakes, power locks, power windows, power front seats, power mirrors, power antenna and electronic level control.

The cars Carmine, tufted, pillowstyle leather split front bench with folddown center armrest and rear bench are in overall very good order, as is the matching carpeting. The original, twospoke steering wheel has a leatherwrapped rim and is in decent shape. The Dark Carmine instrument panel features simulated burled walnut and digital gauges, except for the odometer and is in very good order. Theres also a trip computer. The inner door panels are also slathered in simulated burled walnut and generally echo the rest of the interiors theme. Completing the interior is a factory DelcoBose AM/FM stereo with cassette and fiveband graphic equalizer.

In 1984, Cadillac introduced a convertible version of Eldorado Biarritz. The convertible had rear side windows raised and lowered automatically with the power top and it contained a glass back window. Convertibles had the following features:

specific wide bright door and fender accent moldings
decklid accent striping
Biarritz script nameplate
wire wheel covers
special Biarritz multibutton tufted seat design
leatherwrapped steering wheel rim
plus Cadillacs theft deterrent system

Convertible competition to this Eldorado in 1984 included Buicks Riviera, Chevrolets Cavalier, Chryslers LeBaron, Dodges 600, Fords Mustang and Oldsmobiles Toronado and Pontiacs Sunbird.

If youre looking for a mid80s Cadillac convertible, you should stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check out this somewhat rare Eldorado, the first production Cadillac convertible in eight years.
