Since its introduction in 1963 the 911 has been Porsches flagship vehicle which is manufactured in Stuttgart Germany as a rear engine two door sports car with an independent rear suspension and a very distinctive design. Throughout its life span it has been modified by private teams as well as the factory for racing, rallying and other forms of automotive competition and is among one of the most successful competition cars ever. The replacement for the SC series came in 1984 as the 911 3.2 Carrera, reviving the Carrera name for the first time since 1977. A new 3.2-liter horizontally opposed flat 6-cylinder engine that provided higher displacement was utilized. In 1987 the Carrera got a new G50 five-speed gearbox sourced from Getrag with heavy duty BorgWarner synchronizers and featured a hydraulically operated clutch. Power was increased to 207hp, brake size was increased and oil-fed chain tensioners were fitted to the engine. To improve oil cooling, a finned cooler replaced the serpentine lines in the front passenger fender well. This was further improved in 1987 with the addition of a thermostatically controlled fan. Refinement and reliability were improved with an L-Jetronic fuel injection system and the Bosch Motronics 2 DME ignition. This particular example is a 3 owner car that the current owner purchased in 2017 with 92,758 miles.
