HISTORY OF THE JAGUAR XJR-S 6.0L LIMITED EDITION In order to keep up with other manufacturers, Jaguar launched its own performance tune company, Jaguar Sport, in 1988. The new company was a 50/50 split venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR); it was instrumental in the development of the legendary Jaguar XJ220. JaguarSport began offering a tuned version of the popular XJS, the XJR-S, in 1988. The XJR-S initially featured a tuned version of the 5.3 litre V12 engine with body enhancements, suspension and handling upgrades. Engine displacement increased in September 1989 with a 6.0 litre block featuring fuel injection and an advanced engine management system. These performance enhancements resulted in approximately 320 horsepower and an approximate top speed of 160mph. For the 1992 model year, Jaguar decided to commemorate the launch of the XJ220 super car by bringing XJR-S model to the U.S. for the final year of production. This short run resulted in the XJR-S 6.0L Limited Edition. Only 100 examples were produced and each received a special number plate in front of the shift lever. Its incredible performance and low production numbers have caused the XJR-S 6.0L Limited Edition to be highly regarded by Jaguar collectors and enthusiasts today.
